New imprint, Hot+Messy records, is carving a lane for itself in the EDM Pop world as it celebrates it’s first birthday with the label’s first official release “Stare At The Ocean”. The label is the brainchild of international EDM Pop DJ Omi who, in the past year has signed 3 complementary acts—J-Idris, Hrt Brk and Duchess—and is planning an aggressive release campaign to secure a name in this exciting new DIY era of the music industry.
DJ Omi has earned respect from top promotors, artists, celebrities and countless fans throughout her 13 year DJ career. She has entertained and influenced relevant tastemakers across the globe. Early on, she recognized her inclination in the field of A&R and has honed her skills in artist development with artists that have gone on to secure major label deals. That experience, combined with an ear for future hits and the gift of persuasion, has sparked the formation of Hot+Messy Records.
After graduating Columbia University with honors in neurobiology and attending Manhattan School of Music for piano, Omi entered the work force at a moment when the music industry was in transition. The major labels were downsizing and the A&R departments became virtually non-existent. Though her destiny held the discovery of new artists and hit songs, her looks swept her to Milan to work the runways just as she had started her vinyl record collection and had become a staple in several nyc post-9/11 hotspots. These avenues supported her after college and by keeping a close eye on trends she secured dj residencies in New York City, Atlantic City, Miami and beyond. Omi developed a style that crossed genres and kept the crowd wanting more and was appropriately pronounced “The Mash-Up Queen”. That led her to earn an audio engineering certificate at the Institute of Audio Research where she learned how to produce remixes and work the mixing board. She helped lead the pre-EDM Mashup movement (alongside DJ Mark Ronson and DJ AM) in clubs across major markets. In 2011, she signed to DJ Irie’s Music Group and relocated to Miami Beach. By then she had fallen in love with EDM music and Miami offered an environment where she was able to infuse that sound into her high energy open-format sets. After amicably parting ways, Omi continues to DJ at hot clubs and high profile corporate events for brands like Chanel, Sephora and Cosmopolitan magazine. Through all this, Omi managed to develop solid relationships with countless club djs, radio djs and other industry professionals.
Omi has secured independent funding by a handful of limited liability partners who wish to remain anonymous.
